Skills for Life – Pektron Apprentices share their thoughts during National Apprenticeship Week 2023

Pektron has over 10 years experience working with apprentices, supporting their studies and developing their skills in a practical work environment.

We currently have apprentices working across the business in our Electronics Engineering Labs, Quality and IT, studying for:

  • BTEC L3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
  • Level 4 Quality Practitioner
  • Level 3 IT Support Technician

Between them, they support electronics engineering projects for manufacturers who operate in global markets for electric vehicles, personal safety equipment, construction machinery and off-road vehicles, with customers based in the US, UK and Europe.

When asked about what they enjoyed about the Apprenticeship Scheme approach:

Sigita Juknevica explained: “for me personally, I like when I can still earn while I am learning and developing my skills”

Ethan Wood appreciates that “upon completion of the course I will receive an industry-recognised certificate that can increase my chances of securing full-time employment at Pektron”

Lee Drakeley explained:  What I like about the apprentice scheme is not only am I gaining a qualification, but I am able to use the skills I have learned and put them into practice straight away giving me a stronger workplace experience.

Danuta Chylak-Schroeder said “what I find useful this course, it is the general knowledge that can be used not only in Automotive industry but is focusing on QMS principles from the wider perspective.”

Ian Harpham, our Manufacturing Director said, “We’re good at retaining talent, however, we often struggle to find candidates with the necessary skills and experience we are looking for.  Having worked with apprentices over many years we have realised that ‘growing our own’, through the Apprentice system is the way forward to ensure that we have the skills in place to meet future challenges and guarantee our ongoing success.”
