Our History

1964-1969
Entrepreneurial engineer George Morgan incorporates Pektron on 15th October 1964. With a £100 loan secured, he develops electronic devices as solutions to problems faced by manufacturing companies.

The name “Pektron” originates from Peckwash Mill, a 13th-century water-powered corn mill located on the banks of the River Derwent in Little Eaton, Pektron’s original location. From the 18th century onward, the mill produces paper until it falls into disuse and becomes derelict in 1960. When founding his new company, George Morgan keeps the “Pek” from Peckwash and replaces “wash” with “tron” to give the name a modern, electronic feel.

Pektron generates £1,500 in turnover during its first year of trading

The first Pektron product is a temperature controller for hot tar

1970s
Pektron grows into a team of 12 and achieves its first £1 million turnover.

Pektron moves from original location in Little Eaton and relocate to bigger premises on Alfreton Road, “A Site”

1972

Pektron produce the first automotive product, seatbelt alarm units for British Leyland.

1977

Bass Breweries order 6000 control pump units and transformers from Pektron

1980s
Now comprising 50 staff and under George’s pioneering leadership, Pektron expands operations to create innovative products such as devices to protect beer pump motors and systems for controlling electronic interference.

1985

A new Pektron building, B site, opens 1985, a HQ building with a combination of office suites, lab facilities and production lines

1987

Pektron goes digital and adopts CAD (Computer-Aided Design), allowing engineers to replace manual drawings with accurate digital models.

Another new building! C Site opens in 1987, housing production, QA and maintenance areas

1988

Pektron is awarded ISO9001, formally recognising its processes for managing quality according to international best-practice standards

1990s
Pektron grows in Automotive and Agriculture sectors. Automotive solutions include flashers, electronics for window and seat controls, and simple body control units. Within the Agricultural sector, Pektron expands its range to include transmission controls, draft control systems, switch units, grain flow monitors, and multi-function levers.

1994

D Site opens, a purpose-built manufacturing and warehouse building on the Pektron campus.
The second generation—George’s sons Neil, Philip, and Robert—take over the running of the company
By the end of the decade, Pektron reaches £20 million turnover

Early 2000s 
Throughout the 2000’s, Pektron wins business across the Automotive sector, including mass-market manufacturers, niche supercar producers and leading-edge EV developers

2008
Pektron opened a US office in motor city Detroit and by 2010, with exports accounting for over 55% of products

2011
Pektron embarks on what will become a longstanding relationship with Rainbows Hospice, beginning a new chapter of fundraising that will see Pektron staff raise £30,000 for the charity over the next 15 years.

2013
Pektron welcomes HRH The Duke of Kent to HQ, giving him a tour of facilities, meeting staff, and showcasing record growth while celebrating the “Best of British.

Pektron enters new era of recruitment in collaboration with Japanese automotive giant Toyota, recruit two engineering maintenance Apprentices, one of whom goes on to win Apprentice of the Year and visits Downing Street.

2014
Pektron Founder George Morgan attends Buckingham Palace to be presented with an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his services to manufacturing industry in the field of electronic engineering.

Pektron celebrates 50th Anniversary with a party for all employees in recognition of their hard work, with Robert Morgan noting, “I firmly believe our success lies with the great people we have in the business”

2016
Construction begins on Pektron’s £1m injection moulding facility, enabling in-house manufacture of plastic housings, reducing lead times, and giving full end-to-end control over product quality and delivery

2017
Pektron is awarded the Queen’s Award for International Trade, one of the most sought-after accolades for British businesses.
Another VIP visit! Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and future Prime Minister Bros Johnson tours Pektron’s state of the art facilities, describing Pektron as “a hidden gem of British electronics design and manufacture”

2020
Pektron’s Tech Centre opens, a purpose-built facility housing state-of-the-art testing and validation technology and providing an inspiring office environment for engineers

2022
Pektron reinvests in manufacturing capability, acquiring 15 new surface-mount machines to create the largest installation of its kind in Europe.

2024
Pektron opens E Site, our new Plastic Injection Moulding facility and Logistics Centre, consolidating machinery, racking, and equipment under one 35,800 sq ft building.

Pektron’s 60th anniversary- now a workforce of nearly 300, staff enjoyed fairy lights, prizes and magic during the celebration of our 60 years in business

Pektron’s in-house, on-site test laboratory is independently assessed to working towards ISO/IEC 17025 standard, enabling us to deliver rigorous product testing services for our customers

Pektron enters a new era, Pektron Lighting. Having previously created PCB’s for lighting design, Pektron Lighting will see the design and manufacture of whole lighting assemblies for our customers

2025

After the first apprentices join in 2013, our apprenticeship scheme expands across the business, with two of Pektron’s newer recruits recognised at the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Apprenticeship Awards.

2026
