Apprenticeships at Pektron

Pektron’s commitment to nurturing talent through structured, hands-on apprenticeships not only propels the business forward but also provides life-changing opportunities for numerous individuals. Pektron embraces the innovative, fresh perspectives that apprentices bring.

Currently, we have eight apprentices from Level 3 to 6 with two more employees set to begin their apprenticeship journey later this year.  We work with our employees to find the best fit when it comes to the course and provider.  From IT Support Technician, Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering, to Quality Practitioner and Sales Executive, there is a wealth of opportunity within Pektron.

Apprentices at Pektron

Pektron joined the likes of E.ON, Experian, Rolls Royce, and Auto Windscreens as a finalist at the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Apprenticeship Awards 2024.  The panel of expert judges from across the region acknowledged Pektron as a large employer dedicated to investing in apprentices to create a steady stream of skilled and motivated employees.

Apprentices receive hands-on training from experienced mentors, covering both technical and soft skills crucial for careers.  We support our apprentices to obtain relevant certifications and qualifications, combining practical experience with academic achievements, as well as gain confidence, resilience, and a strong work ethic.  Many apprentices secure permanent positions, with clear pathways for career growth and development.  Pektron is proud of the achievements of our apprentices and remains committed to continuing this success, ensuring that we stay at the forefront of developing the next generation of skilled professionals.

Apprenticeships are not only for those starting their first job.  They can help with a structured career move or upskilling to a specialist area.  Keep an eye on our vacancies or get in touch with our HR Manager to find out more.

CASE STUDY

Sam Cotton, shortlisted for Graduate Apprentice of the Year 2022, continues to make outstanding progress in both his academic studies and his practical contribution to Pektron.  Having joined Pektron in 2013 as a Maintenance Apprentice, Sam has worked with Toyota’s Apprentice Development Centre, and Burton & South Derbyshire College, undertaken an HNC and is on track to graduate this year with a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship with a Bachelor’s Degree in Maintenance Engineering from Sheffield University.  Sam is a valued team player, who gets on well with customers and colleagues alike and is an excellent ambassador for Pektron representing the company at 10 Downing Street, as part of Apprenticeship Week.

Sam has made significant contributions to the Pektron team, from identifying a potentially costly problem with the risk assessment process and working with the management team to change the process, to developing an optical barcode recognition system for high value electric vehicle fixtures. Currently working in a fully-fledged Production Engineer role, Sam has integrated superbly and is more than holding his own as a well-respected and highly competent team member in an experienced, established team. His positive attitude and commitment to hard work, with a willingness to learn (both in his studies and from his experienced colleagues), he is a fantastic example of what can be achieved by choosing an apprenticeship ahead of the direct route into higher education.

Sam explained, “Having the opportunity to study and work at the same time has meant that I have a real understanding of the theory and how it can be applied in practice.  Pektron has been great in providing financial and practical support and I am really looking forward to continuing my career at Pektron”.

Ian Harpham, Manufacturing Director said, “Having worked with Sam and seen how we’ve helped to forge his career, we have realised the huge benefits of ‘growing our own’ through the Apprenticeship scheme – from school-leaver, through to degree level is a fantastic way forward to ensure that we have the skills in place to meet future challenges and guarantee our ongoing success.”
