Pektron supports Science without Borders

Pektron has just said “tchau” to Rafael Baptista, a Brazilian engineering undergraduate who has spent the last 3 months of his gap year with their Production Engineering team.

Science without Borders is a Brazilian governement scholarship programme which sends undergraduate and PHD sandwich course students studying science, technology, engineering, mathematics and creative industries to top universities around the world.  As part of the programme students undertake 12 week placements in the private sector who collaborate with the University involved.

Pektron has supported the Science without Borders initiative alongside the University of Derby and during his time at Pektron Rafael worked in Production Engineering covering tool and fixture design, robot programming, capital justification and developing tool maintenance plans.

Nigel Wilson, Pektron’s Production Engineering Manager explained:

“….Rafael was able to adapt to any task he was given, being innovative on occasions with good skills.  He fitted in well with the team and has left a legacy system of maintenance within Pektron.  He was a pleasure to have at Pektron and a seemless addition to the team.”

At the end of his placement Rafael delivered a presentation about his experience at Pektron at a presentation evening at the University of Derby.

Pektron will continue to support the programme which will run again next year.
